Bob Berger First Aid Meet 2020

Posted by scampanella on Feb 20 2020 - 5:32pm

Troop 105 Annual Bob Berger First Aid Meet

16th Annual Bob Berger Memorial First Aid Meet

 About:

This event was developed in memory of Mr. Bob Berger, a former Scout Master of Troop 105. As one of the first Paramedics in Montgomery County, Mr. Berger was passionate about the importance of First Aid in the Scouting program.

Since 2003, the Scouts of Troop 105 have hosted this First Aid Meet to afford fellow Scouts the opportunity to practice, reinforce and build upon the skills they have learned.  As Patrols progress through approximately 10-12 stations they are presented with real-life scenarios and ‘injured’ victims where they will assess the situation, problem solve and provide appropriate treatment.  (see list of suggested First Aid Kit Supplies for each Patrol in Guidelines)

At the conclusion of each station, Scout Leaders will review the scenario with the Patrol and award points for accuracy and completion. The evaluation process provides a learning opportunity as well as, a little Scout-friendly Competition as the top scoring Patrol adds their name to the Bob Berger Memorial Trophy.

The 2020 Lafayette District Winter Camp-O-Ree is set for the weekend of January 17-19, 2020 at Musser Scout Reservation.  The centerpiece of the weekend, as always, will be our District Klondike Derby at Camp Delmont on Saturday, January 18th.

  • Fire Building
  • First aid
  • Fitness
  • Lashing/Ropes
  • Map & Compass
  • Nature/Tracking
  • Teambuilding
  • Tomahawks (Wrist rockets for Webelos – per the Guide to Safe Scouting)
  • Wilderness Survival

Each town in our Klondike Territory will be awarding points based on their scoring criteria.  The number of gold nuggets found (points earned) will determine the winning sleds.  As many as ten nuggets can be earned at each of our outposts.  Overall time on the course will be used as the tie-breaker.  Most important of all, work together as a team and have fun.

After check-in/registration, sleds will assemble at the parade field in front of the Nelson Training Center by 9:00 AM.  After the opening ceremony and announcements, there will be a shotgun start from the parade field at 9:30.  All sleds will need to return to Klondike headquarters upon completion of the Derby course.
